THE BERG HOME
final drawings

Once the perspective was completed, the finished drawing was traced to a clean final image to be used to develop a color sketch (bottom of page) and as my reference once on site.

The completed design centered on the raised statue of Venus on the right side between the staircases. Since Venus was born forth on the waves of the sea, she stands on a seashell and a fountain of water pouring forth from beneath her gives the impression of her riding the waves. Mirrored on either side are two-tiered fountains supported by Venus' companions, winged cupids, who spout water from musical horns into the central pool. To the left is a statue of Venus' father, Zeus, beside his temple. On the right is a statue of the goddess some say was Venus' mother, Dione, goddess of the oak tree. The branches of the oak tree are home to the dove, symbol of that diety and also of peace to Christian believers. Therefore, a flock of white doves ascends from above the Greek Orthodox Church in the background and flies over the head of Dione. In the far distance are the cliffs of Greece falling into the Mediterranean Sea on the far left side.
