THE BERG HOME

I was introduced to this project by an interior designer who is a friend of mine. She has been working on the design of this home since its blueprint stage and wanted to do something special with the Master Bath and dressing area. We went to visit the home together so that I could see the space and we could discuss the possibility of wall murals for the space.

Upon entering through the double french doors, I found the room still dressed in its construction white underpainting. The areas of the bath, dressing area and entrance are shown below.

Here we see the view as one enters the bath: The arched ceiling supported by columns to either side of the large bathtub and the view out of the window. A large amount of wall space exists to the right and left of the window which we wanted to decorate. The main ceiling is cathedralled to approximately 14 feet, while the floor is white marble, inlaid with green marble.

If one enters the room, walking straight toward the tub and turning around, one sees the entrance doors and the effect of the cathedral ceiling. I felt that this large space above the doors also lent itself to decorative enhancement.

Below, you can see the view from the bathroom into the dressing room and to the master closet door. The dressing room was also an area which the interior designer wished to enhance, tying this space into the decor of the bath.

We discussed the possibilities that were raised by the use of marble and the columns by the tub, each lending itself to a neoclassical motif. The challenge became to envision the space as a whole and develop drawings to present to the client.
